New Car Preview: 2026 Nissan Sentra

Nissan has officially unveiled the 2026 Sentra, marking the start of its ninth generation. First launched in 1982 as the successor to the Datsun 310, the Sentra has long been a staple in Nissan’s lineup. With over 6.5 million units sold in the U.S.—and more than 2 million still on the road—it remains one of the most enduring names in the compact sedan market. This latest version brings bold styling and a refined cabin that should attract both loyal fans and new buyers.

A Bolder Look

The 2026 Sentra takes clear inspiration from Nissan’s electrified lineup, borrowing design cues from the latest Nissan Leaf. Up front, a sharper digital V-Motion grille sets the tone, complemented by slim LED headlights that give the car an upscale edge. Aerodynamic tweaks further smooth out airflow, not only enhancing style but also promising better fuel economy. Nissan has yet to confirm the official figures but expects improvements compared to the outgoing model.

Trim Levels & Colors

Buyers will have four trims to choose from: S, SV, SR, and SL. The palette includes seven single-tone colors—such as Imperial Bronze, Scarlett Ember, and Aspen White—plus four eye-catching two-tone options paired with a contrasting black roof. For those who want extra flair, the SR trim sports an exclusive fascia, black accents, a spoiler, and 18-inch wheels. The premium SL trim takes a more elegant route, focusing on interior upgrades while riding on 17-inch wheels.

A Modernized Interior

Step inside, and the Sentra feels more premium than ever. Even base trims now feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while upper trims add wireless connectivity. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is available, and all versions include a bright, high-resolution infotainment display that solves the visibility issues of the old system.

  • Audio systems range from a basic 4-speaker setup to an 8-speaker Bose system in the SL.

  • The SR trim offers sporty cloth with orange contrast stitching.

  • The SL trim gets plush synthetic leather with a diamond pattern, heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and more.

Tech touches include a touch-sensitive climate panel and Nissan’s Intelligent Key with walk-up auto-unlock. Higher trims add convenience with features like a garage door opener tied to geofencing, so your doors open as you arrive.

Safety & Driver Assistance

Adaptive cruise control is standard across the lineup. With the SL trim or SR Premium Package, buyers also gain ProPilot Assist and a high-definition Intelligent Around View Monitor.

Familiar Powertrain, Subtle Refinements

Under the hood, the Sentra keeps its 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT. While power figures remain modest for the segment, Nissan fine-tuned the transmission for smoother acceleration. Sport mode (available on all trims except the base S) sharpens throttle response and simulates crisper shifts.

The chassis is 6% stiffer than before, contributing to a more controlled ride. Reduced body openings also make for a noticeably quieter cabin.

Fuel economy numbers dip slightly versus last year, with early estimates showing a loss of 1–2 MPG in most driving scenarios. Official EPA figures are still pending.

Pricing & Availability

Nissan hasn’t released pricing yet, but the 2026 Sentra is expected to remain close to the 2025 model’s price point, keeping it competitive in the compact sedan space.
